foam heart stickers
DIY and crafts,  Feature

Oh my heart(s).

I had a lovely plan for this month’s vase. I did … that is until I found out the company who makes the Sweethearts has stopped production of them!

I searched grocery stores, drug stores, candy stores … nada. Not a single one.

Oh my heart.

So … in dismay, I remembered I had these leftover foam stickers from that one time I decided to be the party mom for my daughter’s class Valentine’s party (yeah, I’m not cut out for that). This pays homage to the infamous chalky tasting hearts, however, not quite the same effect.

Woe is me. This just wasn’t satisfactory. I was not happy with the result and thought this is what I would have to settle for this month. Don’t get me wrong. They were free and that’s great. I just had envisioned so much more. (Dramatic enough for ya?)

Meh.

Then this evening, as we were looking for Valentine’s to take to school tomorrow … we FOUND them (sorta*). We scoured the Valentine’s aisle in Target and then because my daughter didn’t like any of the pre-made Valentine’s we found in that aisle, we decided to go to the stationary aisle to find materials to make some. And there … beside the stationary/office area, in another Valentine’s display, we found cards that she actually liked (thank goodness). Whew. That’s done.

THEN on the way OUT, we saw them. 6 bundles of Conversation Heart boxes! I grabbed 4 of them (thought about grabbing them all then decided I wouldn’t be greedy) and merrily checked out of Target. Biggest grin on my face.

So … for this month’s Reduce and Reuse Vase decoration, we will be using the “base” and these items:

  • Unscented pillar white candle, 4″ x 3″ (Target, $4.19)
  • 20 boxes of Brach’s Tiny Conversation Hearts (Target, $2.69)

So much better, don’t you think?

*about that “sorta” – What we found were the Brach’s brand of Conversation Hearts, not the Necco Sweethearts. It looks like Brach’s will have the corner on this market until further notice.
